Sebastopol is a southern suburb on the rural-urban fringe of Ballarat approx 4 km from the city centre. Sebastopol is the main thoroughfare en route to Buninyong and then further to Geelong. Sebastopol’s eastern boundary is the Yarrawee River where there is a linear park with a walking trail. There are also two wetlands, Redan and Yuille. This suburb is home to P – 12 Phoenix College, a popular school which was formed in 2011 with the amalgamation of Sebastopol College and Redan Primary School. There is a women’s and men’s football netball club nicknamed the Burras, currently competing in the Ballarat Football League. There are many restaurants, take away stores, several kindergartens, an undercover and outdoor bowls club, a post office, a state the art library and various shopping precincts including three supermarkets. Today, Sebastopol is the site of numerous light industrial businesses and one of the most car dependent areas in the city. Sebastopol is approx. 2.3km from the comprehensive Delacombe Town Centre via the Glenelg Highway.
