Lake Gardens sits to the North/West side of Lake Wendouree and the Botanic gardens. It takes in the Ballarat Aquatic & Lifestyle Centre, the Prince of Wales Park, the Ballarat High School and Specialist School. 

Lake Gardens backs onto the Ballarat Golf links to the West and borders the newer estate of Insignia. To the North, the Wendouree train station provides public transport within a walking distance, while ample shopping options are close by at the Stocklands shopping complex or the Howitt Street shopping strip. Gillies street defines the suburb from Lake Wendouree, with public transport available on both sides of this dual carriageway. This suburb has newer homes and fenced estates, with several shops and small businesses within its enclosed neighborhood. A popular suburb due to its proximity to the Western Freeway, the city, Wendouree station and the Lake.
