Trawalla is a rural district on the Western Highway, 38km west of Ballarat, 51kms to Ararat, 17kms to Burrumbeet, 8km west of Beaufort and 154kilometres (96 mi) west of Melbourne. Trawalla sits at the headwaters of the Mount Emu Creek where it crosses the Western Highway. The Ararat railway line passes through the town. Trawalla is the birthplace of Australia's ninth Prime Minister James Henry Scullin, commonly known as Jim.
